Data management for Electric field control PRL paper

The data for the (experimental) figures of the main text as well as the supplementary material (SM) is sub divided into folders. Each folder is marked with a letter or multiple letters marking the specific subfigures.
The raw data is provided in the form of .txt files (or .asc) for STM spectroscopy, and .gwy files (from Gwyddion, a free data analysis program) for the STM topography and dI/dV maps. Furthermore, for most figures a .pdf is attached
to display the figure for quick viewing, however these figures might have a different color palette and lay-out compared to the submitted paper, as the image design done in Illustrator is excluded in these .pdf files.

The raw data text files sometimes also contain the metadata including the time the measurements were taken. For all Gwyddion files, the complete metadata can be found by right clicking the image and selecting 'metadata browser'. Additionally, for most (sub)figures, a MATLAB figure and dataset is included. These figures are the same as the .pdf files, just in a different format for further image processing if needed. Upon request a MATLAB code can be provided. However, MATLAB was only used for smoothing and plotting of the data, so from the raw data any interpreter can generate the same figures.

----------

Below an overview is given for the whole data set.

Figure 1:

The data for Figure 1a was measured at 17-07-2025.
The data for Figure 1b was measured at 18-04-2024.

In the folder Figure1b-e, the .txt file 'data' contains the data from the line profiles for figure 1d and 1e:
Columns 1 (x) and 2 (height) generate figure 1d.
Columns 3 (x) and 4 (height) generate figure 1e.

The data for Figure 1g (and consequently also figures 1h and 1i) was measured at 20-02-2024. The data from figure 1h is two columns selected from the dataset from figure 1i.

The data for Figures 1j and 1k were measured on 28-02-2024. In both folders figure1j and figure1k the .ASC files contain the raw data. The .txt file 'rescaled_data' contains the rescaled and smoothed data from all spectroscopy measurements, where the first column is the voltage and the six columns afterwards are the 6 measurements shown in the figures.

Figure 2:

The data for Figure 2b was measured on 17-07-2025.
The data for Figure 2c (and therefore also 2d) was measured on 18-07-2025.

The data for Figure 2e was measured on 17-07-2025. There are two folders that separate the high and low electric field measurements (the top and bottom row in the figure). Additional V-gap measurements besides the ones from the figure are attached.

Figure 3:

The data for Figure 3a, 3c and 3d was measured on 18-07-2025. The raw data of all spectroscopy measurements of 3a in included in the 'figure_3a.txt' file, where the various spectroscopy measurements are listed below each other.

The file 'data' contains the MATLAB data for figure 3d. The text files with the raw data for both figures contain three columns, of which the first is the electric field strength of the spectroscopy measurement expressed as a line segment (so in this case 0 to 9 is low field to high and back to low field), the second column is the voltage in mV, and the third is the differential conductivity.

The data for Figure 3g was measured on 16-07-2025. It is split into the top and bottom figure, with multiple measurements on the high and low electric field.

Supplementary material:

The data for Figure 2a was measured at 29-04-2022.
The data for Figure 2b was measured at 20-02-2024.
The data for Figure 2b was measured at 16-07-2025.
The data for Figure 2d-e was measured at 23-07-2025. The .pdf file in the folder for figure 2d-e is a combined plot of figures 2d and 2e.
The data for Figure 2f was measured at 16-07-2025.

The data for Figure 3 was measured at 17-07-2025. The raw data for additional measurements besides the ones from the figure are attached.

Figure 4 is split into the dI/dV maps and the spectroscopy measurements. The data for Figure 4 was measured at 16-07-2025. The raw data in the folders can be used to generate figures 4d en 4e. Figures 4b en 4c are specific point spectroscopy measurements from the raw data at the end (dashed line) and bulk (right end of the figure) of the ribbon.

The data for Figure 5 was measured at 20-02-2024. The raw data folders contains two text files with the high and low electric field measurements.

The data for Figure 16 was obtained from two different line spectra, for which the raw data for both is attached. The data for Figure 5 was measured at 09-11-2023.
